OTTs to Be Partners in Film Production?

Filmmakers until now used to depend heavily on Financiers to pool in the resources for a project. Often, the makers get money on exorbitant interest rates. But Corona effect is going to change the face of film financing going forward.

In the wake of Economic Slowdown predicted for at least an year, filmmakers are keen on cost cutting measures. As a part of that, filmmakers are planning to reduce the dependence on Financiers. Going forward, OTT Platforms will also finance the films.

Until now, Digital Rights are sold only after the movie production has started. Going forward, small and medium range films will involve interested OTT Platforms right from the Pre-Production stage. They will finance a part of the film while it is being made.

With this, the Filmmakers can get Finance and OTT Platforms will have a say in the quality of the films they are investing on. Big films will anyways get Finance at lower interest rates and so, they are unlikely to bring in new partners on board. Let us see if this change will do good to the industry.
