Peddi Demands Rs. 200 Hike: Will AP, Telangana Approve?

As Peddi moves closer to release, one major question is dominating Tollywood discussions: will the film finally get permission for ticket price hikes and premiere shows in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana?

According to ongoing trade reports, the makers have already applied for ticket hike approvals in both states and remain confident that the required Government Orders (GOs) could arrive by Monday. Bookings are reportedly expected to open either on June 1 or immediately after the permissions are officially cleared.

Industry buzz suggests the makers are seeking hikes of around Rs. 100 to Rs. 125 in single screens and nearly Rs. 150 to Rs. 200 in multiplexes. Premiere shows are also part of the request. Considering the massive scale of Peddi and the heavy investment involved, the team is aggressively pushing for flexible pricing to maximize opening-week revenues.

However, the situation in Telangana appears more complicated than expected.

Reports suggest the Telangana government is carefully watching the ongoing conflict between exhibitors and producers over the percentage-sharing system before taking any decision. Since tensions between both sides have escalated publicly in recent weeks, sources claim the government is hesitant to openly support one side by granting immediate permissions.

Industry discussions point out an interesting angle. Most active producers backing the demand reportedly belong to Andhra Pradesh, while a large section of exhibitors pushing the percentage-sharing issue are based in Telangana. Because of this sensitive situation, trade circles say the Telangana government may even consider rejecting the permissions altogether to avoid appearing biased.

That uncertainty is now indirectly affecting Andhra Pradesh as well. According to industry talk, the AP government is also reportedly assessing the situation carefully, since granting hikes in one state while another rejects them could create further controversy.

This is reportedly why several active producers, including Peddi producer Satish Kilaru, recently met Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan seeking support for flexible pricing permissions and premiere approvals.

For now, suspense continues. With release day approaching rapidly, the final decision regarding ticket hikes and premieres may only arrive at the very last minute.
