Vijay’s last film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, was originally scheduled for release on January 9th. The release was postponed due to delays in issuing the censorship certificate. There is still no official clarity on the revised release date.
Following this, the Madras High Court issued an interim stay on the film’s release. The court also directed the Jana Nayagan team to strictly follow CBFC procedures. In response, the makers have now approached the Supreme Court seeking relief.
Amid this situation, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi posted a tweet on X supporting Vijay’s Jana Nayagan. He criticised the ruling party BJP over the developments surrounding the film. His post quickly gained attention across social media platforms.
In his tweet, Rahul Gandhi said the I&B Ministry’s attempt to block Jana Nayagan was an attack on Tamil culture. He further stated that Mr. Modi would never succeed in suppressing the voice of the Tamil people. The comments sparked strong reactions online.
Many Vijay fans thanked Rahul Gandhi for his support. They pointed out that he has consistently backed Vijay during politically sensitive release issues. Fans also recalled his earlier support for Vijay’s Mersal during its censorship delay.
At the same time, some observers believe the controversy has turned Jana Nayagan into national news. They feel the CBFC issue has generated wide publicity. This could help the film register a huge opening once it clears all formalities.
However, uncertainty remains around the film’s release date. It is yet to be seen whether Jana Nayagan becomes a blockbuster. The outcome will determine if it serves as a memorable farewell for Vijay.
