‘Vintage Prabhas’ Talk Doing More Harm Than Good?

Prabhas is currently one of the busiest and most versatile stars in Indian cinema, with multiple big-ticket films in the pipeline. Among his upcoming projects, two stand out for their variety and buzz — The Raja Saab and Fauji.

The Raja Saab, directed by Maruthi, marks Prabhas’ first venture into the horror-comedy genre. The recently released teaser, featuring him in a charming look, has been met with strong positive response.

Maruthi seems to have tapped into a fun, energetic side of Prabhas rarely seen in recent years, and fans are eager to see this fresh take on their favorite star.

Meanwhile, Fauji, helmed by acclaimed director Hanu Raghavapudi, is a war-based emotional drama that casts Prabhas as a soldier. Some leaked photos from the shoot recently went viral.

Fans have been quick to celebrate the return of “vintage Prabhas” — first with The Raja Saab teaser, and now with Fauji stills.

While the enthusiasm is understandable, this nostalgia may be a bit excessive. Prabhas is not an actor making a comeback after years away from the spotlight; he has been consistently active, experimenting with diverse roles and genres.

Labelling his current look as “vintage” creates an unintended and irritating narrative — one that implies his recent appearances or performances have not been good.

Such comparisons, even if made fondly, risk overshadowing his ongoing evolution as an actor. Rather than constantly measuring him against his past, it would be more meaningful to appreciate the craft, maturity, and range he brings to the screen today.

Fauji is being produced by Mythri Movie Makers with a massive budget, and features Imanvi as the female lead. Vishal Chandrasekhar is scoring the music.

With The Raja Saab offering light-hearted thrills and Fauji delivering patriotic depth, 2025 promises to be a diverse and dynamic year for Prabhas.

These two films are set to showcase very different shades of the actor — reinforcing why he continues to command a pan-India fan base and box office pull.
