#1 Pan-India Hero: Prabhas or Allu Arjun?

In the high-stakes world of Indian cinema, there are two names who currently define the “Pan-India” phenomenon: Prabhas and Allu Arjun. While one is navigating a volatile post-Baahubali landscape, the other is riding a wave of solid Pushpa craze.

But as we look at their 2026–2027 lineups, an important question that emerges is which actor is carrying more risk in the near future? Today, we are analysing the box office journey and the strategic “lineup gamble” between the Rebel Star and the Icon Star.

Since Baahubali 2, Prabhas’ career has turned out to be a rollercoaster ride with plenty of highs and lows. Kalki and Salaar proved his pull. While Kalki succeeded on visual scale and ensemble power, Salaar resonated more with the core “mass” audience for its grit.

However, the recent failure of The Raja Saab was a reality check. This movie not only had low hype and expectations, but it also raised questions about Prabhas’ commitment. It collapsed due to a weak script, weak vision, and poor visuals, proving that even Prabhas’ stardom can’t protect a film from poor word-of-mouth.

This puts immense pressure on Fauzi. If Fauzi works, it could not only work but exceed all expectations, as it has director Hanu Raghavapudi (known for his work in Sita Ramam), who can change the game for the actor.

So, if Fauzi works, it creates the perfect momentum for his upcoming heavy hitters: Spirit with Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Kalki 2 with Nag Ashwin.

On the other hand, we have Allu Arjun, who is currently in the “Golden Phase” of his career. His last project, Pushpa 2, didn’t just work; it conquered the box office and also did some serious business in the North Indian belt. However, his next moves are remarkably bold.

Allu Arjun’s upcoming project with Atlee, AA22, is a safe bet for “mass” appeal, but reports of it being a sci-fi epic change the equation. Atlee has never handled high-concept sci-fi. Can he balance his signature commercial style with the technical demands of a sci-fi epic? That would be really interesting to see.

Also, we have AA23 with director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The director is a visionary, but his last outing, Coolie, received a highly polarising response from viewers.

Despite crossing ₹500 crore, it faced heavy criticism for its screenplay and utterly routine characterisations. For AA23, Lokesh is under pressure to deliver a “Lokesh Kanagraj” heavy action film which the audience expects from him.

If we look at Prabhas’ strategy, it seems like he is returning to “director-led” cinema. By choosing Hanu Raghavapudi and Vanga, he is aligning with directors who have very specific, proven strengths.

Whereas Allu Arjun is working with directors who are trying to push themselves out of their comfort zones: We reportedly have Atlee in sci-fi and Lokesh in a fresh, non-LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe), dark and gritty superhero action project.

While Allu Arjun has more momentum, his projects have a slightly higher ‘uncertainty’ factor because they are uncharted territory for both Tamil directors. Prabhas, conversely, is leaning on directors to do exactly what they are famous for, Also, many of his recent projects have shown that his efforts aren’t matching the scale of his projects. But Allu Arjun is known to give everything he has to his projects from the very beginning.

One thing is certain: the next two years will decide who truly owns the Pan-India throne. Tell us what you think about this scenario, and stay tuned to M9 News for more updates.
