Actor Prakash Raj recently landed in controversy once again after a video clip of his remarks about the Ramayana started circulating online. In the clip, he appears to share a different interpretation of the epic, which many people felt was offensive and disrespectful to Lord Rama and the story itself.
This quickly led to strong backlash on social media. Many people accused him of distorting a sacred text and hurting religious sentiments. The situation became more intense after references to other topics, like food habits and “beef festivals,” were also linked to his comments.
As the outrage grew, discussions also moved towards his film career. Some users started demanding that filmmakers stop casting him in upcoming projects. Films like SS Rajamouli’s Varanasi, Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, and Drishyam 3 are being mentioned in these conversations. Online campaigns calling for his removal show the anger the public has against Prakash Raj.
Now Prakash Raj has responded to the controversy by saying his comments were taken out of context. He explained that only parts of his speech from a literary event were shared, which created a wrong impression. He also said that he respects all religions and did not intend to insult anyone. According to him, some political groups are targeting him and trying to label him unfairly.
Even after his clarification, the debate has not fully settled. Not many people are willing to accept his explanation.
There are also practical concerns now. In Varanasi, Prakash Raj is reportedly playing Mahesh babu’s father and a devout shiv bhakt. Varanasi also features an episode from Ramayana which makes the situation even more sensitive. If the controversy continues, it could affect how audiences receive the film. In today’s environment, even small issues can lead to boycott calls or negative campaigns.
However, the real impact on films may depend on who is involved. Directors like SS Rajamouli have strong credibility, and these kinds of controversies don’t have much impact on his films. But that does not mean the issue will have zero effect. It can still influence public mood to some extent in a negative way. So, Prakash Raj could have avoided saying some of the things he said.
