Not Full Justice : Prathyusha’s Mother Speaks Out

After the verdict, Prathyusha’s mother Sarojini Devi spoke to the media. While she said she respects the decision of the Supreme Court of India, she made it clear that she does not believe her daughter has received complete justice.

“This was not a natural death. My daughter was brutally killed. Key evidence was deliberately tampered with,” she alleged. She said that if all facts had fully come out, the accused would have received life imprisonment.

Sarojini Devi also criticised the courts for not giving importance to the Muniswamy report and for relying mainly on the three member committee report. She alleged that there was an attempt to suppress the truth. “I was not even allowed to see my daughter’s body. The government must ensure justice to our family,” she said emotionally.

In the initial trial, the Nampally court sentenced Siddharth Reddy to five years in prison. In 2011, the Andhra Pradesh High Court reduced the sentence to two years and increased the fine to Rs 50,000. She strongly opposed the reduction and moved the Supreme Court in 2012. Since then, the case has gone through several stages of hearing.

With the latest order, the legal process has reached a conclusion. But for Sarojini Devi, the fight for what she calls complete justice is still not over.
