Re-releases of old classics have become the new trend in Indian cinemas. Pushpa 2 makers also tried to take advantage of this fad and re-release the 2021 prequel to build hype for the second installment.
However, it didn’t pan out the way they wanted as Pushpa: The Rise got a poor response at the Box Office. Iconic films like Kal Ho Naa and Karan Arjun which are two to three decades old are doing much better than the Allu Arjun-starrer.
It shows that people are not just blindly watching any re-release of a film. Rather they are mainly craving to see iconic old films on the big screen.
The classic Karan Arjun was the biggest gainer on Friday, collecting ₹26 lakhs at the box office. Meanwhile, Pushpa added a mere ₹15 lakhs to its already huge lifetime collection.
On BookMyShow the film failed to even be on the trending list while 21-year-old Kal Ho Naa Hoo is doing much better.
If the reason behind Pushpa’s re-release is more about building the hype for the sequel, it doesn’t look promising so far. There is already enough excitement for the much-awaited sequel and this marketing ploy seems to be unnecessary.
