While Pushpa 2 has left a positive impression in terms of box office reports and critical reviews, there is another film that has received similar appreciation, and that is Unni Mukundan’s Malayalam action-thriller Marco.
Described as one of the most violent films ever made, Marco has grossed more than Rs. 50 crores at the box office. Unni, who plays the lead, recently addressed the success of his film as he appeared for an interview.
The actor also mentioned Pushpa 2: The Rule, saying that the taste of the audiences has changed and sometimes, they cannot connect with the film despite featuring big stars and being made on a high budget.
Unni said that the viewers are very smart and at the end of the day, the content of a film decides whether it will be able to connect with everyone.
Furthermore, Unni addressed the condition of pan-Indian cinema, saying that only a few of them can become successful, even though hundreds are being made or planned right now.
Notably, the collections of Pushpa 2: The Rule and Marco are the best examples to prove that Unni’s words are true. Producers have failed to understand that the audience wants to enjoy a film in theatres, even if it is a simple story made on a very low budget.
The screenplay should have enough ingredients to keep the audience engaged. This is the reason why the above-mentioned films have been accepted by viewers.
Baby John recently flopped badly because there was nothing original about it. It was outdated and unexciting. No film can survive only based on promotions ad PR if there is no content.
Producers now need to stop focusing on subjects that can impress only a particular section of the audience and prioritize concepts that will appeal to both single-screen and multiplex viewers.
