A new discussion has started in Tollywood around Allu Arjun’s upcoming film Raaka directed by Atlee. According to reports, Sun Pictures is exploring legal ways to copyright and trademark not just dialogues from the film, but also the hero’s signature mannerisms, body language, and character style.
The discussion mainly comes from the massive cultural impact created earlier by Pushpa. After the film’s release, dialogues like “Thaggede Le,” the Chittoor slang, and Allu Arjun’s shoulder gesture went viral across India. Cricketers recreated the mannerisms during matches, politicians used the dialogues in speeches, and brands, influencers, and meme pages heavily used Pushpa references online.
That organic reach helped Pushpa become a nationwide phenomenon. However, according to industry insiders, the Pushpa makers now reportedly feel they missed a major commercial opportunity because they had very little control over how those elements were commercially used.
Because of that, the Raaka team is now said to be considering a stricter intellectual property strategy. According to the buzz, the makers want important dialogues, gestures, and signature visual elements connected to the character to remain legally protected.
In Hollywood, this approach is common. However, Indian cinema has rarely gone this far. Even iconic Telugu film dialogues and hero mannerisms were mostly left open for public use, with fans, meme creators, and brands freely recreating them online.
If Raaka successfully introduces this system, brands, advertisers, or companies may require licensing agreements before commercially using a hero’s famous dialogue, pose, or character style.
At the same time, many trade experts believe the strategy could become risky. Today, social media memes, reels, and fan recreations play a huge role in film marketing. Pushpa itself became a nationwide sensation largely because audiences freely recreated its dialogues and gestures online.
If Raaka becomes too heavily protected through copyright notices and legal warnings, it could hurt the film’s organic reach. Many iconic film moments in recent years became part of pop culture only because fans and meme creators spread them freely across social media.
Meanwhile, reports suggest Sun Pictures sees Raaka as much more than just a film release. Following the pan-India success of Pushpa, Allu Arjun’s market reportedly expanded massively across India and overseas. Because of that, the company is said to be exploring long-term opportunities connected to the Raaka character, including merchandise, gaming, collectibles, endorsements, and global branding.
