Rahul Questions Pan-India World-Building
Actor Rahul Ramakrishna has taken a sharp dig at the much-hyped world-building in recent big-budget and pan-India films.
On Monday, Rahul shared a post on X with the caption Fin. I rest my case fam. The post quickly gained attention, crossing over a lakh views within hours.
One of the graphics directly mocked filmmakers who use aerial drone shots of villages, cities, forests and rivers to showcase world-building.
Dear God in Heaven,
Please explain to Telugu filmmakers that an overhead drone shot of a village, city, town, coastal hamlet, forest or river is not world-building.
It is just Google Earth with a production budget.
He also questioned promotional strategies such as college tours. Rahul pointed out that these events may entertain students and generate publicity, but they do not necessarily translate into ticket sales. Ultimately, theatre occupancy on release day is what matters.
His comments target a growing trend in big-budget cinema, where scenic visuals and grand landscapes are often presented as proof of a film’s scale and world-building. However, impressive visuals alone cannot create an engaging cinematic world.
Fans and netizens responded with laughter and agreement, with several users sharing the post and tagging filmmakers. Many felt his criticism was relevant to the current trend of films chasing pan-India appeal through scale and grand promotions.
The question is whether filmmakers will take the criticism seriously or continue presenting sweeping drone shots as world-building.
