Leave it to master director S.S. Rajamouli to remind us that no matter how massive the canvas, it is the underlying human pulse that moves an audience. While the newly unveiled global teaser for Varanasi has blown minds with its scale, teasing a multi-timeline adventure from Africa to Antarctica, Rajamouli’s latest revelation grounds the project in deeply rooted Indian emotion.
By stating that Varanasi is, at its absolute core, the story of a father and son, the auteur has shifted the focus from visual effects back to narrative gravity. This core dynamic anchors the film’s high-concept premise in a relatable relationship structure.
This blueprint follows Rajamouli’s previous successes, such as the legacy conflict in Baahubali and the fraternal bond in RRR. Mahesh Babu, taking on a demanding dual role as Rudhra and Lord Rama, will drive this emotional arc. This mythological connection is designed to transcend the film’s sci-fi and action elements.
The project is currently tracking to wrap up principal photography by October 2026. Positioned as India’s most expensive action-adventure, it features a star-studded cast including Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
With a locked worldwide theatrical release for April 7, 2027, the film aims for a balance between technical innovation and classic melodrama. Rajamouli is making it clear that while Varanasi is built to conquer global box offices, its beating heart remains entirely Indian.
