Rajini Was Supposed to Do Shankar’s Film

“Indian” was one of the unforgettable creation of the magical director Shankar and Kamal Hassan playing the honest old Indian looked pretty apt for the story. Well, what if Kamal didn’t play Bharateeyudu? We can’t imagine anyone else in his shoes for this film, but did you know that the role was supposed to be played by Rajinikanth?

As revealed by Vasanta Balan, the assistant director of Indian, Shankar first approached the superstar Rajinikanth for the role which the hero rejected as he was already engaged with other projects. Both, Rajini and Kamal were creating their mark in the cinema back then and having been rejected by Rajini, Shankar took the project to Kamal and we all know what happened next.

The director was even in thoughts to approach Nagarjuna or Venkatesh in Telugu for the film even Kamal denies the offer. Well, Kamal was ought to do it for the film to be a super hit. Anyway, coming to the sequel, Indian 2, Shankar just confirmed that the film to commence on Friday and we can’t wait for the deadlier version of Bharateeyudu in big screens.
