The reason for the delay is the covid-19 virus. As we all know, all the major biggies have been postponed owing to the pandemic. It has shut down the work and the business related to movies. Moving to Sankranthi 2021 doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone.
However, what it means in Telugu context is that RRR is all but postponed. RRR makers haven’t officially announced the postponement. But, another biggie coming at the same time suggests the same indirectly. Not that RRR can’t arrive, but it won’t get the much needed open window across all industries for its humongous budget.
Also, effectively the Rajinikanth starrer is the first and only film to announce Pongal 2021 date officially. There are many Telugu biggies which are looking at coming at the same time but didn’t announce due to RRR. It might change in the coming days.
Annaatthe will be third consecutive Pongal release for Superstar Rajinikanth. The previous two were Petta and Darbar. Siva of Vivegam, Vedalam and Viswasam fame direct the movie. Sun Pictures produce the village-based mass entertainer.
