Ranabaali Talk Raises Sai Deepak Debate!
Mythri Movie Makers has announced a special conversation featuring BJP leader K. Annamalai, lawyer and author J. Sai Deepak, Vijay Deverakonda and director Rahul Sankrityan. The conversation is scheduled to release on October 14, ahead of Ranabaali’s worldwide theatrical release on October 16.
The discussion reportedly focuses on colonization, history and the film’s backdrop of British rule and famine in Rayalaseema. However, Sai Deepak’s participation has raised eyebrows because of his previous harsh criticism of Rahul Sankrityan’s Shyam Singha Roy.
Sai Deepak had strongly attacked Shyam Singha Roy, describing it as a “deadly” and “diabolically made” film. He argued that the film promoted Christian missionary and left-wing propaganda by portraying Hindu traditions negatively.
He specifically objected to the portrayal of a Brahmin character as an antagonist and challenged the film’s depiction of the Devadasi system. According to his argument, the narrative borrowed from colonial-era missionary accounts that portrayed traditional temple practices as exploitative.
Now, the same Sai Deepak is appearing in a conversation with the same director to discuss a film dealing with colonial history.
Naturally, people are asking questions. What changed? Has Sai Deepak’s assessment of Rahul Sankrityan changed? Does he believe Ranabaali approaches history differently from Shyam Singha Roy?
Some people on social media are already accusing him of hypocrisy and calling the appearance a sell-out. However, the actual conversation may clarify his position.
The October 14 conversation will therefore be interesting for more than its promotional value.
