Ravi Teja’s Biggest Problem: Creating Bigger Directors?

Ravi Teja has an interesting pattern in his career. He keeps giving young and emerging directors a chance to prove themselves. Once they deliver a hit, they often move to bigger stars, leaving him stranded. It has happened enough times to look less like a coincidence and more like a Ravi Teja speciality.

Gopichandh Malineni is one of the biggest examples. Ravi Teja gave him Don Seenu, and after establishing himself with films like Balupu and later Krack, Gopichandh Malineni moved into the Balakrishna space with Veera Simha Reddy and is now making Dada with him. Then came Bobby, who made Power with Ravi Teja. He went on to direct Chiranjeevi in Waltair Veerayya and is now returning with Kaaka.

Anil Ravipudi followed a similar path. Raja The Great gave him the platform to establish himself as a commercial director. He later became one of the most reliable names in the industry and moved into the Venkatesh space with films like F2, Sankranthiki Vasthunnam, and now the upcoming January 12 release. Ravi Teja was again one of the stars who gave a young director the opportunity before he became a top director.

Now Shiva Nirvana could be the latest addition to this list. Irumudi has turned out to be one of the biggest blockbusters seen in recent times. It has given Shiva Nirvana’s career a massive boost that even Vijay Deverakonda and Nani failed to give. The director is now attracting attention from Tier-1 heroes for their upcoming projects. If those discussions materialize, Ravi Teja may once again have done something he has done several times before: helped create a director who eventually moves into a bigger-star league.

And this is where Ravi Teja’s situation becomes interesting. His ability to identify talent is helping the industry, but it also means he keeps losing directors once they prove their commercial potential. The bigger stars come calling, and the director moves into a different league.

So, Ravi Teja once again has to go shopping for talent. He needs another filmmaker with a fresh voice, commercial instinct, and the ability to deliver a big hit. In fact, this may be one of the biggest reasons Ravi Teja has remained relevant for so long. He may not always get to keep the directors he discovers, but he keeps finding the next one.
