Relief for Disastrous Industry: Back-to-Back Hits

Since KGF 2, Kannada cinema has been suffering much, and many big films have bombed; but Max and UI have brought a much-needed boost that gives hope for the industry to spring back.

After KGF 2, movies like Kabzaa and Martin were slammed for poor direction, bad performances and extremely loud BGM.

Kabzaa and Martin did not even recover the 25% of their budget, and that brought the industry down on the ground. Many watchful investments and under-performance films were in news throughout 2023.

Sudeep’s Max and Upendra’s UI have come as a relief to the ailing industry. Max got the biggest opening of 2024 for a Kannada film and UI, with being Upendra’s comeback, has got his biggest opening too. Both films prove that quality and star power still can work in the market.

Both films have breathed new life into Kannada cinema. The action of Max and the script of UI have managed to captivate audiences. These two successes highlight that, with strong content, Kannada cinema still enjoys a loyal fan base eager for quality films.

Max and UI have proven that Kannada cinema can make a comeback, but sustained success requires consistency. The industry must focus on compelling storytelling and innovative ideas to maintain this momentum and avoid repeating past mistakes.

However, to sustain this momentum, filmmakers must prioritize quality and originality. Only then can Kannada cinema re-establish itself as one of the major players in Indian cinema.
