At the “Abhayam Masoom-2025” summit in Hyderabad, actor Sai Durgha Tej (SDT) spoke about social media and children’s safety. He suggested that social media accounts should be linked to Aadhaar numbers or parents’ phone numbers for better accountability.
SDT said that every social media handle should have a verified connection to either Aadhaar or a parent’s phone. He admitted that he was unsure about the exact process but believed such a step could bridge the gap between the digital and real world.
His remarks reflect rising concerns about kids being exposed to harmful content, cyberbullying, and online scams. Supporters argue this could ensure safer platforms, protect minors, and make users think twice before posting harmful or abusive content online.
However, many social media users feel such a move would be difficult to implement. Linking accounts to Aadhaar or phone numbers could lead to privacy, legal, and technical challenges, and might also discourage anonymous participation online.
Whether practical or not, SDT’s idea has sparked debate about digital accountability and child safety. As social media continues to grow, discussions around protecting children and promoting responsible online behaviour are likely to gain more attention.
