Sequels Frustrating, Now Threequel Torture Ahead

The trend of sequels will possibly not end so soon. While Pushpa has already announced a new installment titled The Rampage, the other franchises have now stepped in to create third entries.

But in today’s situation, sequels are becoming more of a profit-making opportunity instead of completing storylines.

Nine years ago, when Baahubali: The Beginning was followed by The Conclusion, it was because S.S. Rajamouli genuinely intended to reveal why Katappa killed Baahubali and it was impossible to tell the story in one part.

Things have changed now and directors are intentionally ending the first or second installments on a cliffhanger to make a new sequel. This is happening specifically when the first two entries become blockbusters.

The current strategy of filmmakers is ridiculous because it seems like they are falling short of scripts.

It is not wrong to focus on earning a lot from a film but it can be done with a new film and a new storyline. Why do you need a sequel?

Latest reports have stated that Salaar is also being expanded to a third part, which is unnecessary.

The second film has not even arrived yet on the big screen and the makers have now announced another. Furthermore, there is no clarity on when it will be released.

A sequel to Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal is acceptable since the story is yet to conclude. But they are still planning to bring a third installment which is not needed at all.

Devara could have ended with the first part. However, since the makers were confident that the film would accumulate a lot of profit, they decided to make an unnecessary sequel when the story could have ended in the first film.

On the other hand, the whereabouts of K.G.F. Chapter 3 remain unknown despite that the producers aimed to release it by 2024.

The film industry is falling short of good scriptwriters. Best of the best directors are now opting to make sequels when they have the potential to make better films.

The downfall of Indian films is confirmed if this strategy is not changed soon.
