Someone is murdered. The accused? A superstar. One would expect outrage, protests and boycotts. Instead, Darshan is back in the spotlight, getting ready for his next film, The Devil. How did we get to a point where fame takes precedence over justice?
In June 2024, Renukaswamy, a pharmacist, was found dead, badly beaten and left near a drain in Bengaluru. He had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to actress Pavithra Gowda, Darshan’s rumored partner.
What followed was brutal: Darshan and his associates allegedly lured the fan, tortured him mercilessly and made him shut up forever.
While most of these details are reported widely, Darshan’s direct involvement in planning the crime is yet to be proven.
Darshan was arrested in connection with the murder and was in judicial custody for several months. In October 2024, he was granted bail on medical grounds.
By December, the Supreme Court refused to cancel his bail and just like that, a man accused of such a heinous crime was free.
Fast forward to February 2025 Darshan is back to promoting his film, and his fans are cheering him on as if nothing happened.
Why do fans continue to worship stars despite serious allegations? Instead of questioning their heroes, they stand by them, dismissing facts as “media propaganda”.
The Kannada film industry is silent, not wanting to upset the audience. Would an ordinary man accused of such a crime be given the same leniency? Or does fame grant immunity?
The legal case is on, but the bigger question is: will it matter? The victim’s family is still waiting for justice, while Darshan is back to work with minimal disruption.
The cameras roll, the fans cheer and society moves on. But should we? When did murder become just another headline before the next release?
