Shankar Plans Reshoot: Another 100 Cr in Danger?

The kind of financial losses Shankar’s Indian 2 faced are widely known. Released amid high expectations, it became the biggest disaster in Shankar’s career.

Many feel that Shankar lost his touch and ruined a classic like Indian with an unnecessary sequel. In the climax of Indian 2, Indian 3 was announced.

Initially, Indian 2 was planned as a single film, but as the film went over budget, it was split into two parts. However, the story lacked the depth to stretch over two films. So there is zero interest among the public to watch Indian 3.

Almost 60-70% of Indian 3 has been shot and is ready.

Seeing the response to Indian 2 and no interest in Indian 3, makers decided to release it directly on OTT, as per some rumors.

But, recent reports from the Tamil industry suggest that Indian 3 might go back into production as Shankar wants to rectify his mistake and release Indian 3 in theaters.

Kamal Haasan suggested some changes, and additional scenes are going to be shot. If reshoots happen, the budget could exceed another 100 crores.

Given the unexpected costs and losses faced by Lyca Productions in recent ventures like Chandramukhi 2, Lal Salaam, and Indian 2, it looks uncertain if they’ll invest further.

However, talks suggest that a new schedule might start soon.

Kamal Haasan, who has been enthusiastic about this project, believes Indian 3 carries the true spirit of the story.

With the proposed changes, he hopes it will address the flaws of Indian 2 and captivate audiences.
