Siesmic arresters to protect Hyd Metro

With Metro Cities in the country like Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata felt the tremors of Earth Quake in Nepal, there are worries all over regarding the safety of Metro Rail Projects operating in the cities. However the concessionaire of Hyderabad Metro Rail promises that there will be zero effect on the project even if the Earth Quake occurs in Hyderabad as as each pillar of the rail has been installed with seismic arresters.

These expensive devices are installed at the top of every pillar to withstand the tremors of Earth Quake. Hyderabad Metro Rail Project is the only such project to have these devices. The concessionaire and all the stake holders went with the proposal of Seismic arresters in all the three corridors even though it adds to the cost of the project.

Hyderabad does not fall under high intensity zone but to be on the safe side the arresters have been installed, as earthquakes are a phenomenon that cannot be predicted. Earthquake occurrences are rare in Hyderabad (low density). The city witnessed minor earthquakes in 1982 and 1983.
