Last month there was another bilingual Varisu/Vaarasudu released during the Sankranthi season. That film was also produced by a Telugu producer (Dil Raju) like Vaathi (Naga Vamshi). Just like Varisu (Vamsi Paidipally), Vaathi is also directed by a Telugu director, Venky Atluri.
Despite mediocre content, Varisu did decently at the box office in Tamil, thanks to Vijay’s stardom and the Sankranthi festival advantage. But Vaathi doesn’t have that advantage. It is releasing next week, on a normal Friday. The film’s content has to click with the audiences in a big way to make an impact at the box office.
The trailer is impressive, with a neat presentation. The dialogues are whistle-worthy and thought-provoking too. Dhanush looks in his elements. We have to see if Dhanush can deliver success without the advantage of a festive season.
