Spirit: Did Prabhas-Vanga Pick the Wrong Release Date?

Prabhas Spirit Faces Diwali Date Debate

Prabhas’ Spirit is scheduled to release on October 29, 2027, during the Diwali season. While a festive release usually helps a big film, this date could actually work against Spirit.

The biggest problem is that Diwali falls on Friday. In North India, many people will be busy with Lakshmi Puja and celebrations. This could affect the film’s opening-day collections, especially in the Hindi market.

The post-Diwali day is considered one of the biggest days for box office collections in India. But this time, it falls on Saturday, which is already a weekend. If it had fallen on a weekday, Spirit could have gained an extra holiday advantage. Instead, the film may miss out on that benefit.

Cricket could be an even bigger problem. The 2027 ODI World Cup will take place during the same period. If India reaches the knockout stages, the matches could significantly affect theatre collections, especially during the evenings.

There is also the Virat Kohli factor. If the 2027 World Cup turns out to be his last, along with Rohit Sharma’s, the excitement around India’s matches could be massive. Many fans may prefer watching cricket over going to theatres.

Of course, Prabhas and Sandeep Reddy Vanga have the star power to bring huge crowds. Spirit could still take a massive opening. But a big opening alone is not enough. The film needs strong collections over the following days, and crucial World Cup matches could affect its hold.

The makers may have chosen Diwali to cash in on the festive season, but the timing comes with clear risks. Between Lakshmi Puja and the World Cup, Spirit could face serious competition for audience attention during its crucial opening weekend.

Did Spirit pick the wrong release date? It is too early to say for sure, but the makers may have created an unnecessary box-office headache for themselves.
