The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken a strong stance against two filmmakers who have been accused of using children in inappropriate scenes in their films and OTT series.
In a significant move, they have ordered the police to initiate legal proceedings against these errant producers, invoking the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
One of the filmmakers in question is Mahesh Manjrekar, a renowned figure in Marathi cinema. His Marathi film, “Nay Varan Bhat Loncha Kon Nay Koncha,” has come under scrutiny for featuring explicit scenes involving child actors.
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had raised objections to these scenes, and the NCPCR has now directed the police to take legal action against those involved.
The second filmmaker to face NCPCR’s ire is Alankrita Shrivastava, the director of the OTT series “Bombay Begums.” The series allegedly portrays children consuming narcotics, and the NCPCR has ordered an FIR against Shrivastava for these scenes.
NCPCR’s chairperson, Priyank Kanoongo, emphasized their commitment to child safety in the entertainment industry, issuing new guidelines to protect young performers.
Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that Mahesh Manjrekar has been in the news not only for this controversy but also for his upcoming role as former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu in the propaganda film “Yatra 2.”
