Tuesday, 24th March was the day when Supreme Court of India took the decision to safeguard the right to expression and liberty of thought by removing the much debated and controversial section of IT Act. The apex court found the section entirely vague taking on the basic freedom of expression against the democracy and our constitutional values.
According to Section 66(A) of IT Act, the authorities had the power to jail people for offensive online posts. Making use of this section, many critics also came under scanner and many were arrested for voicing their opinion or expressing discontent on social media like Facebook and Twitter. The arrests under this section spread terror among netizens who had to refrain from posting even the slightest of discontent on Netas and biggies.
