Tamil Filmmakers Get Freedom Of “Title”

The title is the first medium for any film to communicate the content or motto of the film to the audience. Tamil filmmakers have been under the restriction of making the titles only in Pure Tamil as the government made it mandatory to avail the tax benefits.

Owing to the GO (film should have pure Tamil title), the recent film of Vikram “Sketch” being an English word was expected to change its title as other filmmakers did, which did not happen and won’t happen anymore. Tamil filmmakers are now free to put their own titles and don’t have to use only the Tamil language.

The government is going to implement GST effective July 2017 which charges the film a slab rate of 28% no matter which language the title is in. This is going to be an absolute benefit to the filmmakers as the English titles have the advantage of attracting the non-Tamilian audience too, which helps the film to reach the global audience, as the experts say.
