NTR Is Decent, But Dhanush And Dulquer?

For years, Telugu viewers earned the tag of being the most welcoming audience for films from any language. If a movie had strong content, they accepted it without hesitation. But recent trends suggest that Telugu audience remain receptive even when the content does not fully work, especially when compared to Tamil and Malayalam viewers.

War 2 with junior NTR is an example. The film was an experimental action attempt in Bollywood and became one of the biggest disasters there. Yet, it still managed to register some business in Telugu states. Even as a dubbed release, NTR did not face total rejection.

On the other hand, some South stars faced harsher results in their own regions. Dhanush and Dulquer Salmaan had back-to-back setbacks with Tere Ishq Mein and Kaantha. Both films released recently, yet neither could draw their home audience. Kaantha was a non-starter in Malayalam, and Tere Ishq Mein struggled at openings despite Dhanush’s presence.

In direct comparison, Telugu audience appear more supportive of their stars and more open to watching films regardless of early talk. Tamil and Malayalam viewers seem stricter, less forgiving and less invested when the content fails to satisfy them.
