Tollywood BO: Dead Air, Unlikely Winner, What Next?

The Telugu box office has been experiencing a slowdown after the Sankranti season. In recent weeks, there have been very few major releases capable of drawing large crowds to theatres.

As a result, theatres have witnessed a phase of low activity. With limited new films arriving, audiences have had very few fresh options to watch on the big screen.

Amid this quiet period, an unexpected performer has emerged. The horror film Kanchana returned to theatres this week with a wide re release across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

The re release followed a trend that has become common in recent months. Several older films have been brought back to theatres to keep audiences engaged during gaps between major releases.

Despite being an older film, Kanchana has managed to attract a decent number of viewers. The response was not widely expected for a re released film.

This response once again highlights the enthusiasm of Telugu audiences for cinema. Even older films can draw attention when there are limited new releases.

However, the quiet phase at the box office may soon change. A couple of major films are scheduled to arrive in theatres next week.

Two of the most discussed releases are Ustad Bhagat Singh and Dhurandhar 2. Both films are expected to attract strong attention from audiences.

The Pawan Kalyan starrer Ustad Bhagat Singh is likely to open strongly due to the actor’s popularity. Meanwhile, Dhurandhar 2 is also generating considerable interest in the Telugu states.

With these releases arriving around the Ugadi period, the Telugu box office could witness renewed activity. Industry observers believe the festive season may bring audiences back to theatres in large numbers.
