A well-known director recently teamed up with one of the biggest regional superstars in Telugu cinema. The duo had delivered a successful film earlier, which raised strong expectations for their latest project.
However, the new film ended up as a massive disaster. It not only affected the Hero’s reputation but also became one of the biggest loss-making films in recent Telugu cinema.
Despite the poor response, the director appears to be in denial. He continues to promote the film even after its release and has shared statements defending his work.
At one point, he claimed that the hero noticed a social media post. In that post, a fan apologised to the director for misunderstanding the film. According to him, this increased the hero’s trust in him.
The director also stated that he has strong intellectual depth and global knowledge. He added that audiences expect commercial elements in theatres, which is why he is adjusting his approach.
Interestingly, Telugu cinema audiences have been encouraging fresh and quality content in recent times. Many films with unique storytelling and intellectual appeal have received appreciation.
In contrast, this director seems disconnected from the current audience mindset. His statements suggest a gap between his perception and the reality of audience expectations.
Blaming the audience while defending creative choices does not solve the issue. Filmmakers need to reflect on their work instead of shifting responsibility.
As long as this denial continues, the situation may not improve. The lack of understanding of audience perception is clearly visible.
It is surprising to see a senior director facing such criticism. His unwillingness to accept reality has become a major talking point.
