Telugu Audiences Reject Remakes
In recent years, Telugu audiences are strictly rejecting remake films. With the rise of OTT platforms, viewers can access movies in multiple languages and often watch the original long before a remake is released. As a result, remakes rarely generate excitement.
Discussions on social media show that audiences focus more on comparing remakes to the original rather than enjoying them on their own. Even those who have not seen the original tend to troll a remake once they learn it is not an original story. This shift has impacted several actors, from Chiranjeevi to Bellamkonda Srinivas, whose recent remakes failed at the box office. Many have now decided to avoid remakes entirely, recognizing the audience’s changing mindset.
Rajasekhar Takes a Risk with Lubber Pandhu Remake
Despite this, some actors continue to take risks. Rajasekhar, known for starring in several remakes, is reportedly remaking the Tamil hit Lubber Pandhu in Telugu. The story revolves around rural cricket, with Rajasekhar taking on the role originally played by Dinesh. Supporting roles are being assigned to 35 movie fame Vishwadev Rachakonda, who will reportedly reprise Harish Kalyan’s part from the original. Interestingly, Rajasekhar’s own daughter is set to play the heroine in this remake.
It’s Game Over for Remakes
Historically, Rajasekhar has achieved success with remakes, but the scenario now has changed drastically. His recent films, including Gaddam Gang and Shekar, adapted from other languages, failed at the box office. With Lubber Pandhu already available on OTT platforms, Telugu audiences have watched it extensively.
This once again raises the question: why remake a film most viewers have already seen? Given these circumstances, it seems unlikely this remake will attract strong interest. Current trends clearly show that original content continues to outperform remakes in today’s market.
