Thandel: What’s the Benchmark for Distinction Pass?

Naga Chaitanya has been struggling to find a hit for a while now.

After the average success of Bangarraju, he hasn’t had a single successful film. Movies like Thank You and Custody were disasters, and his role in Laal Singh Chaddha alongside Aamir Khan also became a target for trolls.

The only relief for him was his Amazon Prime Video web series Dhootha, which was well-received.

His upcoming project with director Chandoo Mondeti, Thandel, has generated significant anticipation.

While no previous film of Naga Chaitanya has sparked much curiosity, Thandel feels different. There seems to be a genuine sentiment that Naga Chaitanya should succeed big time with Thandel.

Produced by Geetha Arts under Allu Aravind’s banner and presented by Bunny Vas, it is the highest-budget film in Naga Chaitanya’s career. The film is set to release on February 7, with the trailer expected on January 28.

Bunny Vasu raised expectations by tweeting, “Passed with distinction. Allu Aravind sir from Allu University even handed over the certificate.” He also shared a picture from the editing room, which excited Naga Chaitanya’s fans.

But what does Thandel need to achieve to be considered a success at the box office?

Based on reports and trade expectations, Thandel needs to collect at least 100 crores worldwide to be considered a success.

Additionally, it must perform well in the Hindi market, as the makers have emphasized that the story deserves pan-India attention. Only if these targets are met can Thandel be declared to have passed with distinction at the box office.
