The Paradise Nears Breakeven Test

Nani’s much-hyped The Paradise has completed three days at the box office, and surprisingly, the film has not done badly so far. Despite mixed reviews, the film has managed to stay afloat through its opening weekend.

According to trade experts, the film opened strongly on Thursday, collecting around Rs 44 crore gross in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Worldwide, the Day 1 gross was around Rs 75 crores, including fixed hires. The film then dropped to around Rs 17 crores gross in AP and Telangana on Friday, taking the worldwide Day 2 gross to about Rs 22 crores. After two days, the worldwide total stood at around Rs 97 crores.

Saturday brought another drop in the Telugu states, with AP and Telangana contributing around Rs 13 crore gross. The worldwide Day 3 gross is estimated at around Rs 17 crores. This takes the three-day worldwide total to roughly Rs 115 crores.

The film has recovered around 55% of its total investment so far. However, the reported breakeven target is extremely high at around Rs 200 crore worldwide, leaving a massive gap to cover.

Today, Sunday, is crucial for The Paradise. The film is showing a decent trend, with some growth in Andhra, although Telangana is witnessing drops. Overseas and several other parts of India are already seeing sharper declines due to the mixed talk.

Today could be the last day when The Paradise manages a double-digit worldwide gross. The four-day total is expected to reach around Rs 100 crore in India and Rs 125-130 crore worldwide gross.

The film has survived its first weekend mainly because of its strong pre-release hype. Now, everything depends on Monday. If the film holds well, it could still make a late recovery. At present, The Paradise looks headed for around Rs 160-180 crore worldwide, with an outside chance of reaching breakeven.
