Nani’s Paradise Faces Pre-Release Threat: Conspiracy?

The Paradise is facing an unusual pre-release issue just days before its worldwide theatrical release. A Bengaluru court has passed a temporary order against the circulation of certain social media content that the film’s producers claim is false and defamatory.

The order was passed on September 19 by the Additional City Civil and Sessions Judge, Bengaluru, after Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas LLP approached the court. The producer alleged that some social media posts, comments and URLs about The Paradise had gone beyond normal criticism and were aimed at hurting the film’s business.

The producers also pointed to the large investment made in the film’s production, marketing and distribution. With The Paradise scheduled to release on September 24, they argued that continued circulation of the alleged defamatory content could cause financial damage that would be difficult to undo.

The producers asked the court to act without first informing the people responsible for the posts. They argued that giving them prior notice could lead to the content being deleted, changed or circulated even more widely.

The court found that there was enough material at this stage to consider their complaint. It also observed that some of the content appeared to go beyond normal film criticism and could cause financial and reputational damage.

However, there is an important point. The court has not banned criticism of The Paradise. The order applies only to the specific content and URLs mentioned in the producer’s case. Genuine reviews and fair criticism of the film after the release are still allowed.

The order is also temporary. It will remain in place only until the next hearing. The defendants will be served with the court documents, and the case will come up again on October 28.

For the makers, the timing is important as the film enters its final promotional days. They clearly do not want allegedly false or defamatory content to spread widely just before release.
