Tiger 3 Collections: Real Or Scam?

It is customary for film banners to slightly inflate their collections to generate hype among the audience. A 3-5% margin is generally deemed acceptable within the industry.

However, when a producer, particularly from a big banner, exaggerates collections by 20-30% more than the actual figures, it poses a threat to the industry’s credibility.

This week’s big Diwali release, “Tiger 3,” has witnessed decent business on its opening day. Although initial advance bookings were sluggish, they gained momentum just before the release. However, the night shows of “Tiger 3” were impacted on Sunday, especially in the North, due to Diwali celebrations in Hindu households.

According to trade reports, the three national multiplex chains – PIC (PVR, Inox, and Cinepolis) – amassed around 17 crores on the first day. Considering past trends, an anticipated collection for “Tiger 3” on its opening day was around 33-35 crores in an organic way. However, Yash Raj Films released a poster today claiming a net collection of 44 crores on the film’s first day.

Trade experts argue that collecting 27 crores from single screens and other multiplex chains when PIC contributed only 17 crores, is practically implausible and inorganic.

Notably, trade analyst and movie critic KRK points out that the closure of most single screens in Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and other Northern regions for Laxmi Pooja contradicts the reported 27 crores collection from single screens. These discrepancies have led to the trending hashtag #Tiger3BoxOfficeScam on social media.

Today is a major holiday in the North and hence “Tiger 3” has experienced a significant hike in collections. However, the South is likely to witness a decline of 25-30% as it is a regular working day.

The film is projected to reach 55 crores on its second day, but some trade experts say that Yash Raj Films may again boost the collections and make it cross 60 crores and claim Tiger 3 crossed 100 crores net in two days.
