Touch Me Not : Okkadu & OMG, Classics mis-handled!

Last week, Bollywood remake of Mahesh Babu’s game turner movie ‘Okkadu’ remake ‘Tevar’ was released world wide to mixed responses. The critical acclaim the original Mahesh Babu’s movie garnered laid foundation for the superstar’s present stardom. The same movie’s remake failed to create the similar impact on Bollywood audiences.

‘Tevar’ starring Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha was written off as a movie with only attitude and no substance. The remake missed the soul of the movie and engaged itself in the outer elements. The director of the movie already claimed that ‘Tevar’ isn’t a true remake but an adaptation of ‘Okkadu’ since he has worked on the script for six months. Seems while adapting it to Bollywood, the film maker forget to infuse the soul much needed for this kind of classic.

Coming to ‘Gopala Gopala’, the Telugu remake of sensational and outstanding effort ‘Oh My God!’, it was a brave attempt to touch a controversial subject based on the concept of spiritualism and fake godmen. But it couldn’t receive the same critical acclaim the original received when it opened in theatres. Though the film is going to have a decent run at the box-office for many other factors, but the overall feel the original ‘Oh My God’ had was missing indefinitely. Is it really wise to touch classics?
