Tough OTT Star – Easy OTT Star

Tamil Star Suriya has become the first star from the South to take the OTT route during the COVID first wave. His Soorarai Pottru (Aakasam Nee Haddura in Telugu) has released directly on Amazon Prime Video and ended up as a big hit. The actor has lined one more film on the same platform.

His next, Jai Bhim will release directly on Amazon Prime Video as Diwali Special. Suriya’s 2D Entertainment Banner has lined up its entire slate of releases for OTT release. Udranpirappe, Oh My Dog, and Ra Ra are the other films of the banner releasing directly on OTT.

Suriya is the only star from the Tamil film industry to have two Direct-To-OTT releases. While the stars of the remaining industries are struggling to make a decision about their films, Suriya seems to be taking the decision easily. In Telugu, Nani who has released his ‘V’ on OTT during the first wave is said to be sternly opposing a similar release for his next, Tuck Jagadish.

If Tuck Jagadish opts for an OTT release, Nani fears he may be labeled as an OTT Star. But be it Nani or any other star, they can not pressure the producers beyond a certain limit to hold the films given these uncertain times. In the end, Suriya is an Easy OTT Star, Nani may become a tough OTT star if Tuck Jagadish lands up in OTT.
