Why Toxic Failed at the Box Office
Toxic has emerged as a big disaster at the box office. The movie hardly managed to recover its reported budget of Rs. 500-1,000 crores, bringing heavy losses for the producers and also damaging the reputation that Yash built after the success of K.G.F. Chapter 2.
Meanwhile, trade experts and moviegoers have now started analysing what exactly went wrong with the film. While the majority believes that the makers created unnecessary hype before the release, a particular section also stated that a lot of things could have been different in the movie.
The main thing that has been pointed out is the story. Critics and trade experts said that the main plot was very confusing for the audience, including fans of Yash. They stated that a lot of people could not understand what was going on in the film and hence they failed to connect with the characters.
People said that while adding excessive violence is not the wrong thing to do, it was being used mindlessly in Toxic since every few minutes, someone was being killed for unknown reasons. Netizens believe that although the makers intended to provide entertainment through those sequences, they appeared so unnecessary that they started making viewers bored and irritated.
Apart from this, the presence of five leading ladies could not help the film at all. Trade experts addressed the fact that the characters of the lead actresses were not written properly. They even questioned the addition of Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi, since they had nothing much to contribute. The ones who got some screen space hardly left an impression on the audience.
On top of this, the lengthy runtime was another big problem. The movie already did not have a good story to keep audiences engaged from the first frame itself, and then the same viewers had to bear a lot of unnecessary things for more than three hours.
As of now, the movie has reportedly collected Rs. 246 crores in India. With Mirzapur: The Movie and Hanuman Ansh giving tough competition, trade experts have said with conviction that the movie will not be able to touch Rs. 300 crores anymore.
Critics said that Yash needs to reinvent himself and should lock a script that brings his unique side on screen instead of repeating what people have already seen in K.G.F. Netizens believe that the superstar still has potential, and the fans are still waiting for him to break the records once again at the box office. Let’s see what happens next.
