Trade Scratching Heads Over The Ghost

Nagarjuna’s The Ghost hit the screens yesterday and going by the initial response at the box office, things are going to be tough for the film. The posters, teasers, and trailers upped the expectations of audiences and the trade. But the final output has left everyone clueless.

After the encouraging response to the promotional material of the film, the trade was expecting that The Ghost would open well. But the film is underperforming in all areas, including the US.

Once considered a Million Dollar hero after hits like Manam and Oopiri, Nag’s stardom in the US has taken a serious beating in the last few years. The opening day collections in the US have been a dismal $35K from 127 locations. It is lower than Bangarraju which grossed around $40K on its first day (including premieres).

Many are blaming Praveen Sattaru’s inept direction and handling of the story. Except for a few action blocks, nothing much works in the film’s favor.

Many on social media are saying that Nagarjuna has lost his market considerably and therefore should now consider doing multistarrers instead of solo hero projects or come up with a very exciting project with a proven director.

Total Gross : $53,192

Premieres: $34,363
Wednesday: $18,829
