TV Serial Mocks Adipurush’s Wasted Opportunity

Soon after the release of ‘Adipurush’ on June 16, the Hindi audience sang paeans to a DD-era TV serial. Ramanand Sagar’s ultra-popular show ‘Ramayan’ was fondly remembered by North Indians, who got busy comparing the divine ambiance of the TV show with the superficial aesthetics of Prabhas’ mega-budgeted misstep.

Probably, those who hold the rights to the TV show felt that the love for ‘Ramayan’ is intact. To cash in on the undying craze for the show, Shemaroo TV has decided to air it starting July 3.

The announcement has sparked a sentiment that Om Raut’s flawed venture, with its heavy reliance on big-screen visuals and VFX, has inadvertently brought about a positive outcome: the revival of ‘Ramayan’ on television.

Given that both ‘Adipurush’ and ‘Ramayan’ narrate a similar story (albeit broadly), one could quip that it is an ‘Adipurush Lives On…’ moment. The re-telecast will also provide an entirely new generation with the chance to evaluate the decades-old television series without any preconceived notions. While older individuals have been influenced by nostalgia, the younger generation has no such sentiments.
