The much-hyped fifth film in YRF’s Spy Universe, Tiger 3, has been released and is receiving mixed reviews from north to south. The film completed its short weekend, having been released on a Saturday, and is now set to test its luck on crucial weekdays in India.
In the U.S., two major films from Shah Rukh Khan this year are Pathaan ($17 million) and Jawan ($15 million). Tiger 3 has so far posted decent collections, but nothing extraordinary to surpass these top earners from India this year.
No other industry has delivered even half of what these SRK films have collected in North America.
While it’s too early to estimate the lifetime earnings of Tiger 3, it needs to surpass the blockbuster of a Tier 2 star hero this year before aiming for Pathaan or Jawan.
Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani made $10 million in North America and is among the top three Indian films of the year at the North American box office.
Tiger 3 must first surpass this Tier 2 star Ranveer’s film.
However, judging by Monday’s trends, it is unlikely to reach $10 million by the second weekend unless there is a tremendous pickup in the coming weekend.
