Cab Rape: Driver gets life jail

A cab driver induced national wide uproar last year after he raped a 25 year old woman in his Uber Taxi in Gurgoan. A trial court on Tuesday awarded him life imprisonment stating that the convict deserves no leniency for the heinous crime.

He was also imposed a fine of 21000. The court had taken in to consideration, the poor background of his family and ordered that his family be rehabilitated and given some compensation on account of their poor financial status.

The rape back then forced to ban Uber taxis and all other web based Taxi operators for some time in various states of the country. Later the ban was lifted after imposing several rules on such operators like strict back ground checks, emergency alerts etc.
