Direct OTT Release, Good or Bad Choice?

As the wait is getting longer, filmmakers and producers are growing intolerant and at least, the low budget and medium budget movies are looking towards direct OTT releases instead of waiting indefinitely for theatrical releases.

There is a strong buzz that the producers of director Venkatesh Maha’s (C/o Kancherapalem) next movie ‘Umamaheswara Ugraroopasya‘ are thinking about OTT release on Netflix as the digital platform came up with a lucrative deal for the movie.

It’s strange that the makers are skipping a theatrical release. Though it’s a low budget movie, it might turn out to be a decent movie because of the director and the talented cast. So, there is every chance that it might lure the audiences to the theatres.

Now, we see people moving everywhere around on the roads without heeding the lockdown restrictions. When the theatres open up, there is a big chance for the movie to attract the audiences as they are starved of cinematic experiences in theatres.

But, if the film goes for an OTT release, either on Netflix or Aha, it’s original will now be available on Prime for US audiences. So, at this point in time, will it be a good idea or a bad idea to opt for an OTT release instead of direct release?
