Love Story, unlike Uppena, features known faces and director. It comes in the combination of Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi and is directed by Sekhar Kammula. But for this dissimilarity, everything else feels similar.
For starters, both the movies are love stories, and there is quite a buzz within the industry regarding their ‘climax’. The music is a hit, overall, with one big smashing blockbuster. The target audience is the same, as well.
In the second wave, Love Story has become the number one choice for the OTT debut. Its rights are taken by Aha Video long back with a normal theatrical release in place. The question on everyone’s mind is can the makers hold their release like Uppena did?
We have to say; it would be a difficult task to do compared to Uppena. Love Story, as it is, was supposed to release last year. It got delayed due to the first wave of the corona. Finally, the team locked an April 16th release after almost a year since its commencement of shoot.
Every month the movie delays will be a massive financial burden on the makers. It is twice the delay (first and now the second wave), unlike Uppena.
But, more importantly, the people will be wary of coming to theatres immediately when the cinemas reopen. There won’t be full occupancy, and additionally, fear of the third wave would exist now.
The road to recovery won’t be as smooth. Uppena timed it perfectly with full occupancy, no big releases around, and maintaining the right hype. The US, however, will be far better revenue-wise, but will a single territory be enough for Love Story?
Keeping all these things in mind, one has to be prepared. And it shouldn’t come as a surprise if Love Story opts different route.
