Urvashi Rautela takes legal action over alleged AI misuse

Urvashi Rautela has been embroiled in a lot of controversies earlier but the latest one is something everyone is talking about right now: AI. Her team has announced legal action against a Los Angeles-based AI company for allegedly using her name, photographs and videos without authorisation.

The damages are currently being assessed at a staggering Rs 7,000 crore, according to a statement issued by the actress’s team. The development comes at a time when AI-generated and morphed images, including sexually suggestive and seminude depictions of celebrities, are becoming increasingly common across social media platforms.

Just two days ago, Salman Khan spoke about the same matter while hosting Bigg Boss during the weekend.

While such content raises serious questions about consent, privacy and the commercial exploitation of a person’s likeness, it also presents a difficult question: where does one draw the line between protecting one’s identity and inadvertently amplifying the very content one seeks to challenge?

For now, team Urvashi Rautela’s message to the company was: “Build your AI company. Build your brand. But keep Urvashi’s name out of your business unless you have permission.”

The case adds to a growing list of legal disputes in India concerning celebrity personality rights and artificial intelligence.

However, with AI-generated content spreading at an unprecedented pace, the larger challenge remains whether legal action can keep up with the sheer scale of digital misuse, or whether every new controversy risks giving such content even more visibility.
