Only I Know the Marks Dabidi Dibidi Left on My Body

The song “Dabidi Dibidi” from the film Daaku Maharaaj has been raising quite a commotion in the industry, but perhaps not quite for the reason one would expect. While the fans seem charmed by the overall grandeur, very few people might ever know how the act affected actress Urvashi Rautela.

The image behind the shimmer and shimmer seizes the slightest glance with fatigue- this is what showbiz has engineered Rautela to suffer through.

Rautela spoke openly about the discomforts of performing in elaborate costumes and shared that her body bore marks from strenuous dance rehearsals. The song was done on an elaborate budget of 150 crores, featuring Afro-inspired tribal moves that were both stunningly beautiful and physically demanding.

Rautela’s re-telling about the shoot exposes the often-neglected reality behind the routines actors follow to pull off such high-energy performances.

Besides, the contentious dance moves seem to have created more debates than applause as it is an artistic celebration. Many viewers have branded it ‘vulgar’ and ‘obscene’, with an apparent reason behind it: the enormous age difference between Rautela (30) and co-star Nandamuri Balakrishna (64). Due to this gap, discomfort among audiences has raised questions regarding such portrayals in modern cinema.

Critics suggest that the steps to “Dabidi Dibidi” are not befitting the standard, especially when there is such a huge age difference in dancers.

Rautela later confessed to still having some physical scars from the heavy costumes and laborious tasks, adding that the performance was really demanding, who knows whether within taste.

Notwithstanding these credits, the backlash is a larger issue inside the film fraternity about presenting female dancers alongside older male actors.

The “Dabidi Dibidi” controversy reminds audiences of the respect in entertainment, forcing them to look again at what constitutes permissible artistic expression through dance.
