US BO: All Eyes On Jersey And Maharshi

The US box office is going through a rough patch. As has been mentioned previously, barring F2, none of the other movies has brought cheers to the local distributors. And this has been happening since the last quarter of the previous year.

As one can imagine, it has been a long time. The same could be said about the Telugu states, but at least it had a few movies which were breakeven or managed marginal profits. Recently the summer opened with a bang with Majili turning out to be a money maker for all parties involved. Chitralahari is also going to be a breakeven proposition. But, these are all local and not in the US.

The coming Friday will see the release of Jersey. The Nani starrer is the idle film for the US market, and the trade is hoping that it turns out to be the much-needed money spinner. Its box office performance will be very keenly followed as the last few movies of Nani too have been failing to reach breakeven status or only managing to achieve that status with no real profit.

Besides Jersey, the only other film among the summer that holds the potential to score big is Maharshi starring Superstar Mahesh Babu. The last movie from him was a big success and tracked over 3 million from the US. The trade is hoping for a repeat at the bare minimum or, set a new non-Baahubali record in case it gets positive talk.

Whatever be the case, a lot is expected from these two films. The entire tally of the first half of the year will be dependent on Jersey and Maharshi. Let’s hope for the best.
