US BO: PS 2 Heading For Humiliation?

Usually, the sequels for hit films tend to enjoy very good anticipation at the box office. Films like Baahubali 2 and KGF 2 have set record-breaking numbers on the opening day at the box office.

But that’s not even remotely the case with the second part of Ponniyin Selvan – PS2 which is releasing on the 28th of this month.

The film has collected $300K at the USA box office till now with 5 days to go for premieres. Let alone competing with Baahubali 2 and KGF 2, this PS2 is struggling to even compete with the first part, PS.

At this point(5days before premiere), PS 1 had collected over $500K. PS 2 is struggling to compete even with that for now. While sequels sell tickets like hotcakes usually, this PS2 is turning out to be a humiliation with utterly poor numbers.

The lack of support from the Telugu folk in the USA is clearly telling in the case of PS 2 now. The first part had comparatively better interest amongst the Telugu community in the USA.

This could well go down as one of the worst hyped sequels in recent times. The trends are alarmingly poor in the domestic market as well, with zero interest outside Tamil Nadu.

In accordance, the makers of PS2 have also left Telugu promotions to the air. There’s only one solitary event and that too has no buzz.

At this rate, Ponniyin Selvan 2 is on course to become a humiliating sequel from South, a land which produced Baahubali 2 and KGF 2.
