US BO: PS2’s Strange Sequel Story

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is having a strange story to tell at the box office. The film is not making much of the sequel advantage that usually works big time, like in the case of KGF 2 and Baahubali 2.

At the USA box office, PS2 made $3,946,095 by this Tuesday. In comparison, the first part – PS1 made $4,470,022 by its first Tuesday.

Taking the Tuesday tallies into consideration, PS2 has collected around $500K lesser than the first part. This is an unusual trend for sequels which usually tend to set the box office on fire much faster than the initial installments.

PS1 made $6.7 million at the USA box office in its full run. This is a strong run for the film at the USA box office.

But even with good word of mouth and decent reviews, PS2 is underperforming at the box office. For the film to touch PS1’s tally at the USA box office, it needs to have a strong run there.

PS2 has a strange story to tell at the USA box office with the underperforming run, which is contradictory to the usual case with sequels.
