Vaani had to work doubly hard for Aaha Kalyanam

Vaani Kapoor who made her debut in Bollywood with Shuddh Desi Romance is all set now to step into the world of South films. The actress is making her Tamil debut with Yash Raj Films’ Aaha Kalyanam, which is a remake of the hit film Band Baaja Baraat. Vaani plays the lead female role in the movie alongside Telugu actor Nani. Vaani hails from Punjab and when asked about her familiarity with the Tamil culture, she said that she does not believe in forming opinions of other cultures through hearsay. Although, the actress has watched Tamil films of Rajinikanth and Dhanush and has always felt that they are very energetic.

Regardless, Vaani has had to work hard to bridge the culture gap for the film. Cracking the language was a major concern for Aditya Chopra and thus Director Gokul Krishna doubled up as Vaani’s Tamil tutor onsets.

When asked about if Vaani retained anything from Anushka Sharma’s critically-acclaimed performance in Band Baaja Baraat? Vaani said, “No. I watched it just once and decided not to watch it again lest I subconsciously reproduce her performance.”
